This unit focuses on building students' skills in academic writing across various contexts. Students will learn how to effectively integrate research into their writing through techniques such as paraphrasing, quoting, and summarising, while also applying appropriate referencing conventions. Additionally, the unit aims to enhance students' technical writing abilities to support a broad range of academic tasks.

Students are able to (1) apply academic writing conventions to create a variety of text types; (2) construct organised, cohesive, and purposeful paragraphs tailored for a range of purposes; (3) recognise and effectively incorporate paraphrasing, direct quotations, and summarising techniques within written work; and (4) show competence in the stages of the writing process, including planning, research, drafting, revising, and proper referencing.

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) paraphrasing; (2) essay plan; and (3) final essay. Further information is available in the unit outline.

- This online pathway unit - Writing Skills for University is designed to provide flexibility while maintaining meaningful interaction with tutors and peers. Students are required to attend a timetabled one-hour live online tutorial and complete independent pre- and post-tutorial learning activities designed to reinforce understanding, build academic skills and support success at university.
