- Description
This unit provides a comprehensive introduction to university study, helping students build the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to succeed in higher education. Through a combination of practical activities, guided practice, and reflective learning, students will develop strategies for independent learning, effective study, and time management, enabling them to manage academic tasks with confidence. Students will also gain experience in teamwork, effective communication, and using digital learning tools, preparing them to collaborate effectively and engage fully in the academic environment. The unit encourages students to explore their own learning styles and develop critical thinking skills, providing a strong foundation for future study and academic success.

Students are able to (1) identify the key expectations and skills required for successful university study; (2) communicate effectively in written and oral forms suitable for university contexts; and (3) apply practical study and time management techniques to support independent learning.
- Assessment
Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) discussion board introduction; (2) interactive Padlet; and (3) reflection. Further information is available in the unit outline.
This unit is assessed on an ungraded pass/ungraded failed basis. All assessment items must be successfully completed.Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit.

- This is a preparation unit for the Pathway Programs. Students must attend the synchronous sessions and complete the asynchronous activities.
Students have to attend 3 x 2-hour synchronous tutorials over three days. Students will participate and engage in on-line activities.

- This online pathway unit - Preparing for University Success is designed to provide flexibility while maintaining meaningful interaction with tutors and peers. Students are required to attend 3 x 2 hour timetabled live online tutorials over a week and complete independent pre- and post-tutorial learning activities designed to reinforce understanding, build academic skills and support success at university.

- All students are responsible for identifying when they need assistance to improve their academic learning, research, English language and numeracy skills; seeking out the services and resources available to help them; and applying what they learn. Students are encouraged to register for free online support through GETSmart; to help themselves to the extensive range of resources on UWA's STUDYSmarter website; and to participate in WRITESmart and (ma+hs)Smart drop-ins and workshops.

Students are recommended to purchase Essential Textbooks, but a limited number of copies of all Essential Textbooks are held in the Library in print, and as an ebook where possible. In exceptional cases (noted in the Handbook) students may be required to participate in face-to-face laboratory classes when a return to UWA’s Crawley campus becomes possible in order to be awarded a final grade.
