Unit Overview

Description

University Research and Writing equips students with the academic skills and knowledge required to support their transition to university study. Through the development of research, information literacy, academic reading and writing skills, students learn how to locate, select, use and communicate information using appropriate academic conventions. The unit provides practical experience in using library databases, identifying credible academic sources, incorporating source information into academic writing, and applying appropriate referencing practices to support academic integrity. Students also develop independent learning strategies, digital literacy skills, and an understanding of the academically appropriate use of emerging technologies in academic work. The unit introduces students to university approaches to learning, research and academic communication. Through source-based tasks and academic writing activities, students develop the confidence and skills needed to engage successfully in university study and become increasingly independent learners.
