- Description
The unit focuses on the assessment and management of complex clients and related issues focusing on paediatric clients. The unit prepares the audiologist with specialised audiological assessments, including advanced electrophysiological testing, central auditory processing disorder, tele-audiology, hearing screening and recognising the distinct hearing health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other populations at risk of developing ear, hearing and associated conditions. Each component of assessment must be passed in order to pass the unit.

Students are able to (1) create the assessment plan and management of complex paediatric clients and related issues, taking into consideration case history, client's goals, expectations, needs and priorities, and information from other relevant sources; (2) demonstrate knowledge of advanced site-of-lesion testing and result interpretation using auditory evoked potential assessments in paediatric populations; (3) evaluate central auditory processing disorder assessment and management in paediatric clients; (4) demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based screening programs and referral guidelines to ensure individuals requiring audiology services are identified and
referred; (5) evaluate the distinct hearing health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other populations at risk of developing ear, hearing and associated conditions; and (6) recognise the importance of utilising interpreters, when required, to convey information accurately and confidentially.
- Assessment
Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) continuous assessment; (2) case studies; and (3) examination and tests – final examination. Further information is available in the unit outline.
To pass this unit, a student must: (a) achieve an overall mark of 50 per cent or higher for the unit; and (b) achieve the requisite requirements(s) or a mark of 50 per cent or greater, whichever is higher and specified in the unit outline, for the continuous assessment, case studies, and examination and tests – final examination components.
Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.

- Equivalent to 4 hours per week as a mix of lectures/tutorials for a standard semester. Delivery of theoretical materials is in the first 5 weeks of the semester, with additional tutorials and workshops throughout the semester.
