- Description
This is a skills-based unit which focuses on the analysis, evaluation and production of various text genres enhancing communication and interpersonal skills in the Australian academic context..
Students will employ formal, academically appropriate register to communicate clear, cohesive exposition of discipline-related knowledge. Students will also demonstrate research and information literacy skills to locate, critically analyse and synthesise reliable information to formulate credible argumentation in preparation for the demands of professional practice and/or specialised skills or knowledge for further postgraduate studies. Students will employ negotiation and conflict management skills to solve complex problems and in the process, apply and evaluate their interpersonal communication, team participation and intrapersonal skills.

Students are able to (1) communicate with clear, academically appropriate register to transmit discipline-related
knowledge in written, oral, numeric and/ or graphic form; (2) critically evaluate the reliability of various sources of information using reasoning and advanced information literacy skills; (3) engage in research by reviewing, critically analysing and synthesising information to achieve reasoned argumentation in a written format; (4) demonstrate critical thinking skills to address complex problems by applying reasoned justification; and (5) demonstrate effective interpersonal communication, team participation and intrapersonal skills.
- Assessment
Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) in-class assessments; (2) report; and (3) group project. Further information is available in the unit outline.
Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.

In exceptional cases (noted in the Handbook) students may be required to participate in face-to-face laboratory classes when a return to UWA’s Crawley campus becomes possible in order to be awarded a final grade.
